The Poultry Federation of India (PFI) and the USA Poultry and Eggs Export Council (USAPEEC) have consolidated efforts by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking a significant stride in addressing protein deficiency through the advocacy and promotion of poultry protein knowledge and consumption. The gravity of protein deficiency has been underscored by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), emphasizing the indispensable role of adequate protein intake for optimal health. Despite these clarion calls, India continues to grapple with suboptimal levels of dietary protein consumption, posing significant health challenges. With an average intake hovering around 0.6g per kg of ideal body weight, there exists a pressing need to bridge this nutritional gap.
Greg Tyler, President of USAPEEC, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “We are delighted to collaborate with the Poultry Federation of India to tackle protein deficiency in the country. By synergizing our expertise and resources, our aim is to raise awareness about the nutritional benefits of poultry products and contribute to enhancing health and well-being.”
The signing ceremony convened esteemed representatives from both entities, including Greg Tyler, President & CEO of USA Poultry and Egg Export Council; Clay M. Hamilton, Agricultural Minister Counselor for Agricultural Affairs, USDA; and key figures from the Poultry Federation of India such as Ramesh Khatri, Chairman; Sanjeev Gupta, Vice President (HQ); Ricky Thaper, Treasurer; and Parveen Kumar, Vice-President, North Zone. Their addresses underscored the pivotal role of this partnership in addressing critical nutritional deficits and fostering international cooperation within the poultry industry.
This collaborative endeavor encompasses a multifaceted approach, including educational programs, research and development initiatives, market expansion efforts, and nutritional awareness campaigns. By pooling their strengths, both organizations seek to amplify awareness regarding the nutritional merits of poultry products.
This partnership epitomizes a shared commitment to augmenting the nutritional landscape and fostering a healthier, protein-rich future.
