An Israeli firm developed a unique solution to an animal welfare issue within industrial farming – creating hens which only lay female eggs to stop the slaughter of billions of male chicks deemed less profitable. South Africa Imposes Provisional Anti-Dumping Duties Against Bone-in Chicken Imports from Brazil, Denmark, Ireland, Poland and Spain

South Africa has imposed provisional anti-dumping duties against bone-in chicken meat imports from Brazil and four European Union countries. With this announcement, South Africa is now imposing antidumping duties against all nine countries that have regularly exported bone-in chicken portions to this market: the United States, Brazil, Spain, Poland, Ireland, Denmark, Germany, Netherlands and the United Kingdom. Pork price soaring in Thailand, increasing demand for poultry

Thailand’s pork price crisis is causing an increased demand for chicken, leading poultry and egg prices to surge. The Ministry of Commerce has now added chickens and chicken meat to their price control list. The ministry now mandates that chicken raisers with over 100,000 chickens, and slaughterhouses with the capacity for over 4,000 chickens a day, disclose their quantity, stocks, and sales costs each month. EU allows resumption of imports of Ukrainian poultry

Ukraine, a major supplier of poultry products, said that the European Union had lifted all limits on Ukrainian poultry exports imposed last year, reports Reuters. Ukraine reported an outbreak of bird flu among backyard birds in the southern part of the country in early December 2020 and since then exports have been suspended. The overall export of poultry meat from Ukraine rose 4% in 2020 to 431,000 tonnes.
